Dr. Alvarez is a general surgeon by training, having served in various Alaskan communities since 1987. His office based practice in Homer serves the Kachemak bay area and Southern Kenai Peninsula. Our services have changed over the last year and revolve around diagnostic endoscopy including colonoscopy and EGD for wellness exams, diagnosis and treatment. Pill endoscopy of the esophagus and the small bowel is also available using the Given wireless camera platform. Vasectomy using the No Needle/NoScalpel technique is another service offered. Evaluation and removal, if needed, of skin moles or lesions using surgery or cryotherapy continues to be offered. Colonoscopy saves lives! The skin has been an area of focus for several years. This resulted in the collaboration with Vida! for esthetic procedures. Vida! is located in Soldotna. Tickle Liposuction using the NILS system is a body sculpting system performed in the office under special anesthetic conditions. Body sculpting is achieved with minimal discomfort and down time. Sclerotherapy of the legs to lighten or remove unsightly spider and reticular veins associated with varicose veins is a recent addition to our services. Sclerotherapy is the injection of small amounts of solutions irritate the vein walls and achieve ultimate closure of the vein. Asclera is the solution used by Dr. Alvarez. Several visits are usually required and compression stockings help to achieve the best result. This is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed over 30 minutes with minimal discomfort.
